Have You Fed Your Brain Today? Improve Brain Functioning
I have been fascinated with the brain for years, but it is only over the last few years that I’ve had time to research and learn practical ideas to help children when teaching reading, writing and spelling. Feeding your brain is bigger than Mount Kosciusko. Here are a few ideas that you can easily put in place to improve brain functioning.
Food for Thought
We all know that if we eat lots of bread, cakes and biscuits it will slow us down. As I’ve got older the effects of this sort of eating has slowed me down in more ways than I could believe possible. Check out this website for more information. http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/04/what-brain-food-actually-does-for-your-brain/
So what are these miracle foods that the brain needs to work effectively?
Walnuts provide efficient delivery of oxygen to the brain.
Olive oil actually slows the ageing of the brain.
Berries such as strawberries and blackberries build healthy brains.
Sardines and salmon improve focus and memory and act as brain boosters.
Dark chocolate improves mental clearness and blood flow to the brain.
Water
Dehydration can impair short term memory, memory focus and decision making abilities.
Throughout the day I often feel mentally lethargic. I always have snacks that will help me push through the barrier. My favourite choice is carrots cut in julienne style. I find that they hit the right place instantly and away I go again. Get your child into the habit of taking some brain snacks to school each day.
Exercise for Thought
Every part of our bodies need exercise, even the brain.

Don’t Drain Your Brain
You are the creator of your life, you are the artist sculpturing your dreams. To bring these dreams into reality, you have to image them into life. For children, in order to be a great reader, speller or writer they have to believe that they can read, spell or write. Because if they believe that they can’t….. they won’t be able to achieve. If you don’t know that you can’t you can; if you know that you can you can’t!!! Once again, it is all about thought patterns. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.
