Have You Fed Your Brain Today?
I have been fascinated with the brain for years, but it is only over the last few years that I have had time to research and learn practical ideas to help children when teaching reading, writing and spelling. Feeding your brain is bigger than Mount Kosciusko. Here are a few ideas that you can implement easily while improving your child’s brain’s power.
Food for Thought
We all know that if we eat lots of bread, cakes and biscuits it will slow us down. As I ‘ve got older the effects of this sort of eating has slowed me down in more ways than I could believe possible. http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/04/what-braiAZAZn-food-actually-does-for-your-brain/
So what are these miracle foods that the brain wants so that it will work more effectively?
WALNUTS PROVIDE OXYGEN EFFICIENCY TO THE BRAIN
OLIVE OIL SLOWS THE AGING OF THE BRAIN
BERRIES SUCH AS STRAWBERRIES AND BLACKBERRIES BUILD HEALTHY BRAINS
SARDINES AND SALMON IMPROVE FOCUS AND MEMORY AND ACT AS BRAIN BOOSTERS
DARK CHOCOLATE IMPROVES MENTAL ACUITY AND BLOOD FLOW TO THE BRAIN
Dehydration can impair short term memory, memory focus and decision making ability.
Throughout the day I often feel a little lethargic or mentally and not able to focus as well as I need or want to. So I always have on hand small snacks that will help me push through the barrier. My favourite choice is carrots cut in julienne style. I find that they hit the right place instantly and away I go again.
EXERCISE FOR THE BODY
Every part of our bodies need exercise, even the brain. Lumosity http://www.lumosity.com/landing_pages/188?gclid=CIfEmImc_rQCFcQkpgodGUUATg
is one of the best sites where you can access great exercises to keep your brain in top gear.
“When you socialize, you are exercising your brain,” Mirza says. “You need to know that person and remember. Basically, you are building the muscles of your brain.”
KEEP THE BRAIN CLEAN WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS
You are the creator of your life, you are the artist sculpturing your dreams. To bring these dreams into your reality, you have to image them into life. For children, in order to be a great reader, speller or writer they have to believe that they can. Because if they believe that they can’t….. they won’t be able to achieve their goal. Once again, it is all about thought patterns. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. Success can be in the change from negative thoughts to positive thoughts by consistently driving out negative thinking.
Let me give you an example. Dare something worthy. If you don’t know that you can’t you can; if you know that you can you can’t!!!
